WATER TEMPS

Firstly, we do not reply to requests for 'What is the water temp today'... and there is a very good reason... if you are asking this, then open water swimming is possibly not the sport for you... the local swimming pool is at a 'static' temp of around 28 DegreeC and will be the constant you are seeking.

By its very nature, open water swimming is just that (the clue is in the title) its OPEN WATER (read OUTDOOR) swimming and the temps will be cooler than in the local pool.

Its an adventure! Embrace it, enjoy it and don't worry about the detail.

If you are wondering if you need to bring your wetsuit... bring it anyway... whats the problem?

We have 140 suits on site if you suddenly decide you need one and haven't got yours with you... just rent one.

As a guide, Our Summer season starts the 1st May and the water temp is usually around 14 DegreeC and will rise at a minimum of 1 Degree C per week depending on how much sun we get and the static temps (especially overnight).

MAY - expect 14 - 20 Degree C

JUNE - expect 19 - 22 Degreee C

JULY - expect 22 - 24 Degree C

AUGUST - expect 24 + Degree C

SEPTEMBER - expect 20 Degree and lower as it heads back down

A lot will depend on global warming and other factors outside our control (We know Steve likes to think he is next to God but his portfolio doesn't extend to weather control).

We DO NOT take the temperature daily, frankly we have beter things to do, we DO TAKE the surface temperature just before each swim session so we can post it to the 'Board of Lies' lakeside, but any thermometer is only reasonably accurate within a couple of degrees in each direction unless its a scientific/calibrated one... which most are not.

In summary, if you are obsessed with water temp... you don't understand static air temp and wind chill factor (which is far more important) and would probably be better off at the local pool where they are equally obsessed with water temp.

Everyone has a different tolerance and what appears cold to some is too hot for others, for pity's sake.. its just swimming... we are not running a bath for baby!

It's Open Water Outdoor Swimming not a sauna... embrace it, love it, swim in it.. .and get a hot chocolate to warm up afterwards!

N.B. guarantee given that you will shiver at some point!
